About GAMS

Georgia Mountain Senior Golf

Georgia Mountain Seniors Golf is an organization of golfers age 50 and over that will begin the Twelfth year of competition in 2024.  GAMS finished 2023 with 156 members and averaged over 90 golfers playing in each tournament.

GAMSGolf will play 21 tournaments in 2024.

Golfers pay a $10 entry fee at each event along with any green fee and cart fee charged by the course.  Golfers may enter a Skins game at each tournament for a $5 entry fee.  Participation in Skins is not mandatory. A Skin is won by having the only Birdie or better score on a hole.  Dues will be used for administrative fees and to pay Mountain Cup point winners at the end of the year.  The entry fee is used to pay close up and flight winner awards for each event.

JOINING  and  BEGINNING QUOTA

Dues must be payed and received to sign up for an event.  New members will be assigned a quota based on the best information available  including GHIN Index, Apple Mt. Dogfight Quota, NEGA Quota, and recent scores.  Quotas may be adjusted beyond the scale until a new member has played two events.

SIGN UP FOR EVENTS

Sign up for the next tournament will open at approximately 7 PM on the day of the current tournament.   The link to sign up will be on the home page of the website.   Only “A” group golfers can sign up during the first hour – sign up is open to all golfers after that.  Members who play 70% of tournaments make up the A group.  New members are not eligible for the A group.

To sign up for a tournament, enter your name as it appears on the member list.  The software is case sensitive and will not recognize a misspelled name.  When you enter your name, it should appear immediately on the signup list.   The software will not accept any entry after the tournament is full.  If the tournament is full, you can check the link occasionally to see if spots are available because of a withdrawal.

Golfers are paired based on quota and tee.  Do not request a specific pairing.  Starting holes will be posted on the Tournament Information page 2 days before the tournament.

Every GAMS member cannot play in every tournament.  The field size of each tournament varies based on course lay out and carts available. Tournaments usually fill up quickly.

No Show

Definition of a NO –SHOW is a golfer who is signed up to play and does NOT communicate that he will not be able to attend prior to the starting of an event. A golfer who is a NO SHOW may lose playing privileges.

Payout Procedures

Awards will be NOT be paid immediately after each tournament.  Winnings can be picked up at check in for the next 2 tournaments.  If you are not able to pick up winnings, ask a friend to pick up for you.  Winnings not claimed after 2 tournaments will be placed back in the GAMS account and will no longer be available.

Mountain Cup

Mt Cup competition will end after the next to last tournament, and Mt Cup awards will be presented at the beginning of the final tournament.

Mountain Cup is a season long competition similar to the PGA Fed Ex Cup. There are five Mountain Cup brackets named the Nicklaus, Palmer, Hogan, Snead, and Nelson brackets.  Golfers are placed in Mountain Cup brackets based on their tee and quota.  Assignment to brackets is made after the second tournament in May.  Players earn points for playing and placing in each event, and the top four in each bracket receive payouts at the final tournament of the year.
